the Tony Scott tribute fund

Tony was born on Monday 12th June 1961, the first son to Peggy and Tony. He was a lively, funny and very energetic little boy, and a playmate for his 3 year old sister Janet. The family was completed a few years later, when his sister Denise and brother John were born.

From an early age Tony demonstrated a talent for playing football. He played for both The Everton Academy and Liverpool School Boys, and eventually achieved his lifelong ambition to play professional football, when he was signed by Bury Football Club at age 16.

In 1984 Tony was blessed with a baby daughter Claire Louise and in 1986 headed over to America to play and coach football. Whilst there, he developed a passion for music and poetry. He idolised the Beatles, in particular John Lennon. He also learnt to play the guitar and even got to record his own CD.

Tony returned from America full of enthusiasm, and worked very hard to set up a successful decking business.

Tony fell in love, married and set up home with Marya and her daughter Rosanna and they were soon expecting their own little bundle of joy.

Things changed dramatically in April 2002 when out of the blue, Tony had what he described as ‘a sort of black out’. He was taken to hospital to be examined but was reassured when told that he was suffering from stress. On medical advice Tony took a well earned break to Majorca with his wife and children. However, he continued to feel unwell and was worried about what was causing this.

OUR WORLD FELL APART

In May 2002 our parents took Tony to see a private specialist, to investigate his continued concern. He was sent for numerous tests and an MRI scan, which revealed that he had a brain tumour.

In August 2002 Tony’s family was completed with the arrival of Anthony Edmund.

During this difficult year for Tony, he proved to have courage and strength beyond belief. He managed to go on family holidays, was present at the birth of his son, continued to socialise, went shopping and even went to a couple of pop concerts; including the Liverpool Summer Pops to see one of his idols, Paul McCartney.

In September 2004 our family travelled to Mexico, where our brother John was married and Tony was his best man. During this holiday Tony had the time of his life, joining in all the sporting and social activities.

Tony’s goal was to get better and be a loving husband and father, and despite his illness, he achieved this goal ten times over. He made sure he spent as much time as possible with all his family, especially his daughter Claire and his son Anthony.

Unfortunately, in May 2005, when Tony was on his way to visit our parents with his son Anthony, he collapsed on the kerbside. He was taken to hospital, where scans revealed that the brain tumor had returned.

Our family were devastated by this news, but again Tony battled on, and never ever gave up hope. On 4th May 2005 he underwent a second operation followed by more grueling chemotherapy.

Tony was a devout catholic and a member of a very supportive prayer group. He visited shrines such as Medugorje and Edmund of Arrowsmith and went to Lourdes with his brother and sister. His faith in God gave him the courage to battle on to the very end. The courage and strength he showed rubbed off on everyone, helping us to cope, during and after his illness.

Tony fell asleep on 20th February 2006 Our family lost a HERO, who will never ever be forgotten. He died as he lived, at peace with his God and in the presence of his beloved family. Tony, take your rest. You have left a legacy behind and we will forever cherish your memories.

IN OUR HEARTS
(author unknown)

We thought of you with love today.
But that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday.
And days before that too.
We think of you in silence.
We often speak your name.
Now all we have is memories.
And your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake.
With which we'll never part.
God has you in his keeping.
We have you in our heart.
